Baby's steamed egg yolk and variation

A simple way to cook baby’s first egg yolk. It sets softly, and is easily mixed into cooked, pureed or mashed vegetables, or pureed fruit. Egg yolk is a rich source of iron for your baby.

1 egg yolk

2 tablespoons water

  • Put egg yolk into a cup or small ramekin (1/2 cup capacity). Use a tiny whisk or a fork to mix yolk and water until smooth
  • Cover cup with foil. Place in a steamer insert set over simmering water. Cover pot
  • Steam for 4 to 5 minutes
  • Remove from heat to cool a little
  • Cover and promptly refrigerate any cooked egg yolk not used immediately

Use within 2 days.

To serve cooked egg yolk with First foods:

Add vegetables

Use a hand-held blender or mini-processor to combine cooked vegetable puree with a little cooked yolk.
